and self-catering accommodation is provided with easy access to the activities
and attractions available around Bala and also within
the Snowdonia National Park and North Wales.
Abercelyn Country House and self-catering Cottages
are run by the owners, who
takes pride in ensuring that the accommodation, service and facilities are of a high standard.
Abercelyn Country House and Tithe Barn are graded by VisitWales, formerly the
Wales Tourist Board, as 5 star (exceptional quality) while the Poor House (Abercelyn Cottage) is
graded as 4-star (excellent quality). Abercelyn is well situated to take advantage of the various
activities on offer around Bala, in
the Snowdonia National Park, and in particular the outstanding local
water-sports facilities and un-crowded walking
in three mountain ranges, with the Aran ridge nearby. Visitors can choose from
bed & breakfast or self-catering accommodation and use our library
of walking & canoeing guide books together with our advice on
outdoor
activities. There is a lockable bike store,
bike wash facilities and drying room available. The award-winning landscaped garden is available for visitors to explore.
The garden is an ideal place for
bird watching.

In Snowdonia
Self-catering accommodation
is provided in the Poor House (Abercelyn Cottage)
and Tithe Barn, which is
Grade-II listed. The
Cottage
and Tithe Barn are of traditional
construction with stone walls and wooden beams. Modern comforts have
been added while preserving the features and character of the
buildings. Pets are permitted
(extra charge) in the Poor House (Abercelyn Cottage) and Tithe Barn-1. |

The Poor House accommodates six persons. Facilities include full central heating,
traditional style stove, en-suite bathrooms, TV with
DVD, HiFi unit, fitted kitchen with electric cooker, microwave,
fridge/freezer, etc. and
patio with furniture and barbecue.
The two Tithe Barn cottages were completed in 2006,
Tithe Barn-1 can accommodate
three persons, while Tithe Barn-2 can accommodate
four persons. Each cottage has full central heating, en-suite
bathrooms including whirlpool bath, TV with DVD, HiFi unit (MP3
player
compatible), fitted kitchen with dishwasher, electric cooker, microwave,
fridge/freezer, etc. and patio with furniture and barbecue.

In addition to providing quality accommodation within the National
Park of Snowdonia, Abercelyn
Guest House and Cottages are situated in a peaceful
location, just a short stroll from the Lake Bala and close to the market-town of
Bala, which
provides a choice of pubs, restaurants and shops, where
local and home-made
produce are available. A short walk from Abercelyn along a mountain
stream you will find traditional, mixed woods with, at the
appropriate time of the year, a carpet of bluebells.
Wildlife is abundant - in the
garden or nearby are: otters, badgers, foxes, squirrels and many
types of birds including
Red kites and Buzzards. A short drive away you can see
Ospreys and visit
RSPB Bird sanctuaries.
The area is known as the
"Welsh Lake District",
where the combination of lakes and mountains provide memorable
scenery. As well as Lake Bala (Llyn Tegid) nearby are Lake Vyrnwy
(Llyn Efyrnwy),
Llyn Brenig, Llyn Alwen and Llyn Celyn. The local hills provide un-crowded walking in three
mountain ranges (Aran, Arenig, Berwyn) with Cader Idris and the
Rhinogs a short drive away. Mountain walks
such as Snowdon, Tryfan, the Glyders and Cnicht are also possible,
with the option of a qualified mountain
guide. There are scenic
walks around Lake Bala and nearby including "Precipice Walk", a
classic short walk of North Wales, and the Mawddach Trail, which was
featured on BBC2 "Railway Walks" with Julia Bradbury. This part of
Snowdonia
offers many possibilities for
outdoor activities including whitewater rafting at the nearby
National Whitewater Centre (Canolfan Tryweryn), canoeing and sailing
on Lake Bala, mountain biking at several centres, including the
internationally known Coed y Brenin.
Other activities available
include go-karting, quad-trekking, high ropes, paint-ball and more.
Other parts of the Snowdonia National Park are easily reached by car
including Snowdon, the many beaches, castles, railways, mines and
and other tourist attractions.
