About Us

Abercelyn Country House and self-catering has been run by the owner Lindsay Hind since 2001. Occasionally she is helped (or hindered) by her husband Ray, if he is not out mountain walking, canoeing or other outdoor activity. Actually Ray provides outdoor activities; he will assist you with planning walks or booking outdoor activities.

Lindsay and Ray have lived in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands before moving to Wales.

Lindsay is a caterer by profession and owning Abercelyn has enabled her to enjoy her main interests of cooking and gardening, it also provides an opportunity to display her patchwork quilts - but she now finds little time to make quilts, although she does fit in some porcelain painting. The kitchen garden supplies fresh vegetables and fruit for home-made preserves. She also keeps hens and free range eggs are available for breakfast. Lindsay is also a keen mountain walker when she find time.

Ray is a qualified Mountain Leader and member of the Rambler's association and is pleased to provide information on local footpaths. He is a member of Bala & Penllyn Rotary Club and is one of the committee that organises the Bala Challenge - a charity walk around Bala Lake. He is a qualified British Canoe Union (BCU) Level-3 coach and also a member of Bala Canoe Club where he helps with coaching the junior members. His main hobbies are (strangely) mountain walking and canoeing. He has climbed all the mountains over 2000-ft in Wales (150 peaks) and a large number in England as well. He has been a rugby coach and still enjoys watching rugby.

We follow good environmental practice and have achieved Level 2 of the Green Dragon scheme. We also use Fair Trade products - whose aim is to achieve a better deal for Third World producers. We were pleased to be awarded the Environment, Community & Fine Food Stamps by Alastair Sawday.
