About Siop Y Gornel

Siop Y Gornel is owned and run by Feline and Adam, with Feline’s stepsister Ruby,  and just a little (!)  help from her sister Leonie, her mum  Annette, Adam’s mum Christine and dad Max. All believe in good food, which tastes amazing, is made from proper ingredients that can easily be sourced, and have minimum impact on the environment where they come from. We also believe that small independent shops, growers and producers are the future of British food and shopping, and therefore need supporting! We buy as locally as we can, and organic where possible, use recycled and recyclable containers and bags, and non-harmful cleaning products in our kitchen. All our fresh food is made by us, from scratch, using proper ingredients and no short-cuts. We hope you like it!

Small Cafe

One of Britain's best cake shops, according to the Observer Food Monthly, see their review below:

"Christine Ashworth is the cake baker here at Siop Y Gornel, (pronounced seeop-a cornell) which means 'corner shop', and the bakery is a stage for everything good and proper in British baking. The bakery is run by her son Adam, who makes the handcut pork pies filled with trotter jelly, and his partner Feline who bakes all the breads. Perfect Bakewell tarts, rich with raspberry jam and ground almonds, and Dundee cakes, as well as a cake version of bara brith and a Celtic cider fruit loaf using Ralph's Old Badland Welsh Cider, from Presteigne, Powys. The fruit is soaked for a few days in hot cider then mixed with spices, flour and eggs, and keeps moist for 6 - 8 weeks if you hide it. Or a few days if you don't."
