Wildlife

Seen in the garden are numerous squirrels and many varieties of birds (see below) we have been visited by a pheasant and mallard ducks, with their young, on the mountain stream. We sometimes see that badgers have visited us and nearby we understand there are otters in the stream. At night owls can be heard and we have seen a fox in our field next to the garden.

The following bird species have been seen in the garden: Heron, Common Snipe, Jay, Magpies, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Great Spotted Woodpecker, House Martin, Swallow, Pied Wagtail, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Goldcrest, Spotted Flycatcher, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Magpie, Jackdaw, Starling, Chauffinch, Goldfinch, Greanfinch, Bullfinch

The following birds species have been seen from the garden: Red Kites, Buzzards, Canada Goose, Red Kite, Buzzard, Herring Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Swift, Carrion Crow, Raven. While walking near Abercelyn we have also seen Red Kites and Buzzards.

There are many different types of trees in the garden, including: Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera), Handkerchief Tree (Davidia involucrata), Acer, Alder, Beech, Hazel, Maple, Oak, Silver Birch, Willow and Yew.

The Tulip Tree flowers regularly indicating that it is over 25 years old.
