Georgian
Style |
|
| The
Georgian period is generally considered to encompass the reign of George
I, II, III and IV within the period 1714 to 1830. The Georgian style is
associated with buildings of deceptive simplicity, attention to detail,
quality of craftsmanship, refined furniture and importance of landscaped
gardens to provide views from the house. The country house set in a pleasing park, with
house and garden "designed as one", was a feature of the Georgian period. |
|
|
| Abercelyn
Country House was built in 1729 and therefore in the early Georgian
architectural style known as "Palladian" after the influence of the 16th C.
Italian architect and sculptor Andrea Palladio. Palladianism is known for
a sense of symmetry, proportion, order and simple elegance and recreated
the classical style of Rome. The early Georgian gardens were
informal based on the natural environment. |

The
drawing room was a comfortable room near the main entrance and used
for receiving guests. At Abercelyn Country House the drawing room,
which incorporates the library, is appropriately available for guest’s use. |
